Optima Baron (High to Lowracer) / tourer recommendations Hello all. To be fair, I forgot all about how many gears I was shifting once I had the Baron out on the road.
The Baron has no water bottle braze-ons, no rack eyelets and it is very hard to strap anything to (including a flag).
People can look right at a normal bike but not "see" it while on your bent, they will be staring with their mouths open.

I used to own 2011 Baron lowracer. A few of these have gone to very competitive racers. Like many lowracers, the handlebars do block some of your view if you really lay the seat back. I love my Optima Baron but want a FWD Lowracer as well. The Ultegra 600 cranks are also very functional and really nice, but they are three years old. Ideal for high-speed track events like a 200-meter sprint. I find I get more space in traffic because the cars don't know what they are dealing with. Weight – 28.5 pounds How did it really stack up at a bent? I have no issues on my Optima Baron. They were also nice enough to loan me the bike for an extended period of time. Asking: 800 euro, or 825 euro with an lowracer aerobag from Optima. It is still a lowracer and takes a little getting used to, but the bike never really got out of hand at any time.
The two bikes are very similar in design and have an equally similar speed potential.

It’s not everyones cup of tea but it’s also not difficult to ride - my 12 yr old daughter and 64 yr old dad were riding on the streets in about an hour. Optima was well known for their European made suspended (with suspension) recumbent bikes. However, I would trade a little of the efficiency for just one more idler. Keep seeing the titled bent as well rated and commented upon in prior years but cannot see anything about more recent iterations or a website for purchase. Not too shabby for a disc brake equipped lowracer. Lightening: U-2 Obviously this approach requires a much larger initial monetary commitment. Have a small margin for steering curves due to the narrow steering bar and the chain’s close positioning to the front wheel. I really dislike having tailpipes in my face, though, so I seldom ride in heavy traffic. I have no issues on my Optima Baron. However, you still must learn to filter the noise (shills and know-nothings) from the signal.

Difficult not only to stop but also to start! It probably feels closer to an M5 Low Racer. It did not arrive in “customer” configuration. Like any lowracer, the Racer 2 does have a fairly high bottom bracket. At this moment the stock of Optima recumbent frames and components is too low to be able to actively market and sell our bikes. It and the Challenge Jester occupied most of the top spots at the most recent World Championship event in Belgium. It’s fast, comfortable and I haven’t seen a white knuckle yet.

The chain is pretty quiet and its routing seemed to be fairly efficient. Getting on (or more appropriately, “getting into”) the Baron takes a little effort, but once you strap it on, it’s a very comfortable bike.
They have entered the recumbent market at a very good time.
