leap: revelation full movie

All kidding aside, the skills I’ve been learning on this job are going to make Leap: Revelation that much better. Here’s my latest effort. It reminded me so much of Final Draft.

Many shots will be completely CG, which I can do, but it takes me time to do it right. 458 people like this. While I don’t think I’d consider switching from Final Draft for the writing of a script, I’ve been nothing but happy with its other features. As I was reading through The DV Rebel’s Guide (for like the gazillionth time) I came across a paragraph on digital doubles. Infact, recently it has started consuming all my free time-again.

I wrote two screenplays in Final Draft (“Wulf II: The Feeding Continues” “Cryptid”) and kept looking over at Celtx. It’s nice to think we’d stick together, but that’s not always going to be the case. I NEED something to edit and mix so I can hone my skills for Leap 3. We did the movie for $2000 and I was proud of it! Back to the original thought, we have to put our love for God above our love for others, including that of our own families.

But here’s the thing, I AM THE SECOND UNIT. In other Leap 3 news, a friend of mine, Kimberly Cruz (she played the reporter in Leap 2) has really stepped up to the plate and shown some real initiative as a producer.

I bought a 6″x9″ top bound spiral notebook and can get 4 frames per page. Alex took the script and brought a lot of ideas to the character.

The breakdowns are done and I’m working on the new schedule now.

When I got back to where I’m staying, I connected the macbook (which if you remember has a dead screen) to my Ubuntu laptop via the firewire and a firewire adapter.

I’m currently on the third draft. I would love to get CS6 on here, but I don’t think it’ll run well, so I’m stuck with CS4. Basically, you tell it which poses to hit at what point in time and the computer fills in all the other details. To actually write the script, I would lay on my couch with a movie on and my laptop on my thigh. I worked really hard to get exact costs when possible because I didn’t want to under estimate, or over estimate for that matter.

Rewriting the last half of the script means I’ve been doing a lot of what I call, “couch time”.

I may still use an Excel spreadsheet for the budget, haven’t decided yet. I still find it almost magical taking the thoughts from my head, putting them on paper, and bringing that paper to life. Element’s biggest strength is also it’s biggest drawback: In order for E3D to be realtime, it’s rendering engine is basically the same found in video games.

Lots of screen replacements, the gunshot wounds, etc… I had one scene that was all greenscreen, once shot with roto, and one set extension as well. I had set up one of my video cameras in the corner and recorded the sermon with the intent of adding the nice audio recording and the exported PowerPoint slides to the final video to upload to my site.

Well, I gave Gorilla a try, but I wasn’t happy. It doesn’t feel like home right now with all my posters and pictures gone. Everyone wanted to know what happens to the Leap Crew. They’ll rattle them off. Next, I graded the original shot to be night using Colorista II. I may have to find more instances for this effect now. I’ve also set up the project in Gorilla so that as soon as the script is locked, I can import it and begin the scheduling and budget. As I’m sure many of you are aware, most movies aren’t just made up on the spot. Wouldn’t be a big deal except that he’s the main character.

I gave the first draft to Alex, and seven versions later we shot it from August thru December 2010. All the actors who’ve read the script for Leap: Revelation like where it’s heading, except Alex. One for the Second Coming, and one where 150 lbs hailstones will fall from the sky. A few cool updates. After ROTB, the initial plan was to do something else. And being HD it looks ten million times better than the last film anyway. At the begining of the month, Adobe ran a bio about me that I had submitted about my history with After Effects. I started writing the script last night, I also designed the logo and a poster.

So now, I’m not only making a movie the devil hates, but I’m preaching the Great Controversy theme which exposes how he works. Overall, I’m really excited to finish the new script. In particular, Nathyn has some good ideas for pacing and cutting that I’ll be implementing when I do the next version while Matt was kind enough to help me with the render settings for the web. I feel a bit like Garreth Edwards who spent a few years doing VFX before finally getting to do his own things. So I fired up the Terminal. I’m still doing some effects testing and I think I’m almost done solving all the issues.

In the process, I’m getting practice shooting for effects (the hardest part is visualizing the where exactly the CG is in the frame) and I’m learning more intimately After Effects and especially the rotobrush.

After writing countless shorts and my first feature (“Wulf”) in it, I decided It was high time to upgrade four years later. It’s almost like Satan is realizing that he can’t stop the film, so now he’s going to try to keep people from seeing it. With the trailer for “Run” complete, I’m getting ancy.
