The “Sisters” and “Mandy” are our favorite music and dance numbers and we too wished the Columbia Inn really existed cause it looked so beautiful. I actually get teary eyed at the beginning of the movie when it’s the scene of the men in the war. The singing…the dancing…the costumes…it’s all wonderful! LOVE IT. It’s a funny thing about the age differences, because I never noticed that. I managed to dvr quite a few of them and have really enjoyed watching them. That is all I have been able to find on her. Especially in this type of film.

I stayed with a friend for a week before coming home for Christmas this year, and we watched this movie every single night the entire time I was there. I have been looking for years on getting information on her. Did you ever notice that the movie begins during a war, with a nostalgic backdrop of New England, and ends in New England with a nostalgic look at war? Whitfield enjoyed a long association with One Man’s Family; she played Penny on the radio version till nearly the end of its long broadcast run…and when the program briefly transitioned to TV, she played the part of Claudia (Penny’s radio mom!). One door that was not shut in the Whitfields’ face belonged to Carlton E. Morse, the creative force behind I Love a Mystery and One Man’s Family. Do you remember his family Christmas shows? Maybe thats why we all still watch these great classics ,because they were made by people that were for the most part in real life like the characters they play.
